The time-of-flight laser scanner is similar to a radar.
It uses a flashing source of light instead of a radio beam.
Because of its characteristics of accuracy and distance range,
it is especially suitable for architectural or geomorphologic survey.
The instrument developed by GBC,
comprising a commercial range finder mounted on a system of motorised rotations,
is suitable for application on site and permits
distance surveys between 2-30 m with a quota resolution
in the order of 1 cm at a typical speed of acquisition of 1.2. khz.
