Shape relief constitutes a precious contribution to the
analysis and monitoring of the state of conservation of
objects of historical or artistic interest.
Optical techniques for measuring the shape, associated with
the most recent digital techniques of data analysis,
enables the acquisition and computer-aided processing
of 3D models, the application of which ranges from digital
restoration to the realization of virtual reality complex
sceneries, form digital storage, therefore unalterable,
to the production of faithful copies of artwork.
Furthermore a 3D model is an ideal support
for the integration of data coming from other diagnostics investigation.
GBC has developed a series of instruments for 3D relief of
objects which range from architectural structures to small archaeological finds. 3D data processing is carried out in partnership with the Visual Computing Group of IST-CNR of Pisa.
